Part of the 2026 Things I Love series, this original painting by Seattle artist Glynn Rosenberg features a vase of narcissi (daffodil flowers) on a table next to a plate of eaten oysters. Painted with acrylic on a 5”x7” wood panel, the still life references the “memento mori” tradition of Flemish painting; the still life tradition reflects on mortality through flowers and objects. Narcissi have a rich symbolic language, representing rebirth and death through myth. The oyster also has a long history in still life painting. Here, it reflects the dynamic cultural, economic and ecological significance of seafood in the Pacific Northwest. Each painting in the series is one of a kind and created by hand in the artist’s Capitol Hill studio.
