South Lake Union Staircases
In summer 2025, Seattle mural artist Glynn Rosenberg designed a series of temporary murals on staircases in South Lake Union, Seattle. The project was managed by Urban Artworks. Painted with tempera by community volunteers, the murals brought interactive public art to the neighborhood and celebrated Seattle in the summer with imagery of boats on the lake, orcas in Puget Sound, and blooming flowers. This project highlights the role of nature inspired, community-focused art in engaging and connecting local residents to their environment.
Urban ArtWorks is a Seattle-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting youth, artists, and communities through public art. For the South Lake Union staircase murals, they helped facilitate the project, providing guidance and support while community volunteers painted the stairs. Their mission of fostering creativity, engagement, and collaboration helped turn the temporary murals into a shared community experience.
